Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)

The famous romantic composer Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky is primarily known for his war horses in the orchestral repertoire, like his Symphonies, Piano Concertos and programme works such as the Ouverture Romeo and Juliette or the Slavonic March. However, he also was a master of chamber music, who wrote fine String Quartets and beautiful Song Cycles.
Tchaikovsky composed this Adagio in his early years. Although clearly finished, it looks like a sketch and some of the bars seem to need additional notes. At the same time the open texture is appealing in its simplicity and the lyric music is unmistakebly by Tchaikovky.
