Frank Martin was the most prolific Swiss composer of the 20th Century. He wrote a large oeuvre in a personal neo-classical style, that many unconditionally experience as “beautiful.”
Floricor Editions presents two works of which the Concerto pour les instruments à vent et le piano from 1924 was premiered in Carnegie Hall New York in 2005(!) by the Murray State University Orchestra under Dennis Johnson. The Concerto is a work in two movements for an ensemble with a piano (and not a solo-concerto for piano and winds).
Ein Totentanz zu Basel im Jahre 1943 [A Dance of Death in Basel in the Year 1943] was performed only twice, in 1943 and 1992.
A Suite from this work (made by Maria Martin and Bastiaan Blomhert) will appear in the course of Spring 2006.
